effective rainfall

(1) That part of rainfall which contributes to runoff. In some procedures the prompt subsurface runoff is entirely excluded from direct runoff and then effective rainfall is equal to rainfall excess. (2) In agriculture: that portion of the rainfall which remains in the soil and contributes to the growth of crops.
